The commencement meeting of the LE Femmes Network took place at the UN City, Copenhagen, Denmark in April 2018.

The meeting was chaired by Médina Thiam of the INTERPOL Fisheries Crime Working Group (FCWG) and the all-female participants represented the following IGOs: the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Wildlife Crime Programme; the UNODC Container Control Programme, the North Atlantic Fisheries Intelligence Group (NA-FIG), the INTERPOL Environmental Security Programme, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the FCWG. PescaDOLUS attended as Secretariat.

The meeting agreed on the formation of the LE Femmes network to function as a hub for women in law enforcement in fisheries and confirmed the network’s objectives are to enhance the role of women in fisheries crime law enforcement, with a particular focus on the needs of women in developing countries. Further, agreement was reached on the:

  • Governing structure and division of roles and responsibilities
  • Partners
  • Network strategy and workplan for 2018
  • Terms of Reference
